John Gilfillan is a research intern at Synergy. John holds an undergraduate degree in Environmental and Regional Development studies at Stellenbosch University, and a BSC honours degree at the University of Witwatersrand in Geographic and environmental sciences.
John has experience in the corporate field, having spent 2 years in the account management sector at Network BBDO global advertising agency. After the corporate stint John returned to his love for the environment and community involvement sector, where he worked within management and maintenance of a nature reserve and its various lodges in the Central Tuli block of Botswana for Terraconservancy lmt. John helped establish a model of incorporating the community involvement in the reserve, by holding workshops to train the employees of Mathatane town how to best be suited for their various roles within the lodges and reserve.
This on the ground field experience was the foundational motivation for John to move into the impact sector, to help build up a variety of other local economic sectors, industries and upliftment of people in all types of terrains, particularly within Africa.
