LBMA: On-Site Mine Assessments
Latin America, Africa and Asia
Synergy supports gold refiners to assess mining counterparties operating in conflict-affected and high-risk areas, in line with the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) Responsible Gold Guidance. These assessments take place in complex and often sensitive environments, where risks related to human rights abuses, ESG performance, and conflict financing require careful, context-specific evaluation.
Working as a trusted independent advisor, Synergy conducts on-the-ground assessments of mining operations, identifying material risks and working closely with refiners and their counterparties to develop practical, operationally grounded corrective action plans. These plans are jointly validated and implemented, with progress tracked over time to support continuous improvement.
This work spans a wide range of geographies, including Latin America, Africa, and Asia, and covers a diverse set of counterparties, from artisanal and small-scale miners to junior companies and major industrial operators. Across this portfolio, Synergy’s approach combines technical rigour with pragmatic engagement, enabling improvements in risk management practices in challenging contexts.
Collectively, these assessments demonstrate the role that effective due diligence can play in strengthening responsible sourcing practices in global gold supply chains, consistent with the expectations of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Due Diligence Guidance.
