Simfer: Social Performance Training Programme
Guinea
Synergy designed and delivered a bespoke, intensive training programme to strengthen social performance capacity within the community and social teams at Simfer. Delivered over four weeks in person, the programme responded to the need for more integrated and practical approaches to managing social risks and impacts within a large-scale mining context.
The training was structured around four core modules covering impact assessment, impact management, stakeholder engagement, and social investment. Each module combined conceptual frameworks with practical application, enabling participants to engage directly with real-world challenges and translate learning into their day-to-day roles.
A key focus of the programme was to support participants in working more effectively across functions, strengthening the integration of social performance and human rights considerations into broader operational decision-making. Delivery was supported by a team of Synergy staff and associate consultants with specialised expertise, drawing on case studies and practical tools to ensure relevance and applicability.
Participants completed end-of-module evaluations to consolidate learning, with successful participants receiving certification from the University of Cape Town. The programme combined technical depth with practical relevance, contributing to a step change in individual capability and supporting the organisation’s broader social performance maturity.
