Dan has over thirty years of experience working across sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East, specialising in the relationship between mining operations and the communities living adjacent to them. He is recognised for helping clients navigate complex stakeholder dynamics and for supporting practical approaches that deliver mutual benefit in rural and peri-urban settings.

He excels at finding workable solutions where corporate policies, site constraints, and community expectations may not align, and brings extensive experience in stakeholder engagement, conflict resolution, human rights, resettlement, and socio-economic development. His work is grounded in a strong understanding of the influence and vulnerabilities of the extractive sector and its stakeholders in rural contexts.

Alongside his social performance expertise, Dan brings a strong ecology and biodiversity background, with deep knowledge of southern and eastern African fauna and flora. He supports clients to integrate nature-based considerations into project planning and delivery, and i committed to inclusive, people-centred approaches to conservation that recognise both community and environmental needs.

Dan holds an Honours degree in Ecology from the University of the Witwatersrand and a postgraduate diploma in Land and Agrarian Studies from the University of the Western Cape. He has completed executive training in general management and works fluently in English, with conversational Afrikaans and basic Kiswahili.
