Mario is a social performance specialist with twenty-five years of experience supporting sustainable development across the extractives, energy, infrastructure, and conservation sectors. He is recognised for his expertise in applying international standards in complex and high-risk contexts, and for supporting clients to strengthen systems and delivery on the ground.

He has deep experience with the IFC Performance Standards (PS1–PS8), the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and Indigenous Peoples frameworks, including ILO Convention 169 and UNDRIP. Mario has an extensive track record delivering ESMS design, gap assessments, ESG action plans, and capacity-building programmes, and has worked for and alongside development finance institutions including IFC, the World Bank Group, KfW, IDB and BID Invest.

A recognised specialist on Indigenous Peoples’ rights and Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC), he supports clients to design and implement culturally appropriate engagement and consent processes, and to integrate these into broader social performance and governance systems. His work also spans social and human rights impact assessment, resettlement planning, grievance mechanisms, and conflict management.

Based in Argentina, Mario has worked extensively across Latin America and the Caribbean, and has additional experience in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. He works fluently in Spanish and English, with intermediate Portuguese. He holds degrees in Sociology and Public Administration, and a master’s degree in Political Studies from Universidad Nacional de San Martín.
