Sam is a development economics and management specialist with more than twenty years of experience supporting institutions and companies to manage social risks and deliver socio-economic development outcomes. He brings particular expertise in aligning strategy, systems, and implementation in complex stakeholder environments.
His work spans social impact assessment, community physical and economic displacement management, livelihood restoration planning and implementation support, and local and small business economic development. He is also experienced in applying gender mainstreaming to project and development strategies, including supporting cooperative development and community-based initiatives.
He brings extensive experience in institutional diagnosis and restructuring, strategic and performance management, and supporting teams through change management processes. Sam has led multidisciplinary assignments that require strong facilitation, stakeholder engagement, and a focus on practical implementation.
Sam holds a master’s degree in Economic Geography from the University of the Witwatersrand and has additional training in gender studies and organisational performance tools. He works fluently in English and Sepedi (Northern Sotho). As a Director at Synergy, he provides senior advisory support on complex social performance assignments, with a particular focus on communities, land and livelihoods.
