Tom has twenty-five years of experience leading teams internationally across private-sector and not-for-profit organisations. He brings over fifteen years of organisational development experience focused on building teams and management systems that improve performance, alongside more than twenty years of programme and project management experience across diverse operating environments.

As Synergy’s Operations Director, Tom leads operational management and supports delivery across the group, including project and portfolio risk management, contract management, internal systems, and performance reporting. He is focused on ensuring consultants are effectively supported to deliver on Synergy’s commitments, with a strong emphasis on practical systems that enable quality and accountability.

Based in São Paulo, Tom heads up Synergy’s Latin America work and has experience conducting management system audits, remedy mechanism operationalisation and reviews against LBMA standards in Brazil. He also supports ESIA and ESMP reviews and broader delivery oversight across Synergy’s portfolio, including projects in complex and high-risk environments.

Tom is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and qualified project manager, and holds an MSc in Applied Development Studies from the University of Reading, as well as a BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Birmingham. He works fluently in English and Portuguese, and has lived and worked in the UK, Sierra Leone, Mozambique and Brazil.
